in all my attempts to curb/track/abstain from/quit spending, there's only one tip so far that has worked like magic. and my dear friends, i will share it with you because i know you're impulsive buyers like me. to all of those who shop with their eyes instead of their brains *hint hint julie, xianne and ote*, this one's for you.
i forgot who mentioned it to me -- i think it was colin -- but what was said went something along the lines of "Would you really buy that if you knew how many hours you had to work in order to afford that thing?"
let's say you want a dinner for two at circles. that's Php 2,400 flat. if you earn Php 15,000 net a month at a rate of Php 93.75 per hour, you would have to work 25.6 hours or THREE AND 1/4 DAYS just to have that date. ouch! you didn't even add the cost of gas and parking to that amount yet. end the date with a movie? dang, that blows four days of work already. 32 hours to work for a dinner and movie -- and it's all up to you if you think it's worth it.
now about that itch you have to buy that sony ericsson phone? that powerbook? that dune colored LV mini lin speedy 30? *drool drool* talk about saving up for a lifetime!
this is a great tip no matter how great or small your spending power is as it reflects each person's salary level. as for me, i'm just going to pretend i didn't write this as i check the balance of my credit cards online. the paoti/chetro labtim combo shook my daily expenditures some today.
damn you starbucks.
any of you guys have some money saving tips you'd like to share?
ps. i try to rationalize my spending NOW by saying i probably won't get to buy/taste/have that in malaysia. i know that it's wrong, but when i'm in KL and swimming in money (diane, ang yabang mo! ote, THINK POSITIVE diba?! hahaha!) i'll be able to save then.
